Help the homeless with our new Reserve Red Blend

Help us support an amazing nonprofit organization, Chrysalis, by purchasing our new Reserve Red Blend.

“Work is more than just a job, it is a reflection of our human dignity and a way to contribute to the common good.” – Paul Long

There is an incredible value that most of us take for granted called the “dignity of work.” As those privileged enough to have jobs and a stable income, it can become easy to think of employment as a right, where we should all probably be a bit more grateful. Chrysalis is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit on a mission to create a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.

Since their inception in 1984, Chrysalis has guided over 50,000 men and women onto this pathway through unique programming and skills training. Their clients face significant barriers to employment – including lack of affordable housing, criminal records, poor or insufficient work histories and low levels of education.  In 2013, 32% of their clients were homeless, and 25% were staying with family or friends. Only 27% of clients entering Chrysalis were living in permanent housing. Forty-five percent have not received a high school diploma or GED.  Nearly half (44%) are ex-felons and 58% have some kind of criminal record.  The average age of Chrysalis clients was 43, 44% are African American, 28% are Latino, and 70% are men. Forty-six percent (46%) of Chrysalis clients have a physical or mental disability.

Chrysalis’ key objective is to improve our clients’ ability to compete in the job market and to empower them with the knowledge, skills and, perhaps most importantly, self-confidence necessary for long term employment and self-sufficiency.

Chrysalis’ core curriculum of classes offers information and resources to empower clients to conduct their own self-directed job search, including:
